A Note from Mrs. Walker
Amelia Elementary Families,
As you know, we have the class winter parties scheduled for this week. I have given this event a great deal of thought and feel strongly that our students need to experience this wonderful childhood school experience. That being said, I will be managing parents that enter the building differently in an attempt to heighten security.
If you plan on attending your child’s classroom party, you must understand, and welcome, any minor inconveniences associated with following simple rules and procedures, as these procedures ensure the safety of our students.
The following procedures will be in effect and expected to be followed with NO EXCEPTIONS:
• All parents will be checked-in in the main corridors of the building.
• Any parent wishing to enter the building must have their assigned green car dismissal tag.
• If a parent does not have a dismissal tag (children who are walkers or bus riders), they must have their driver’s license.
• Students will NOT be dismissed from classrooms at the end of the party. Students must move to their dismissal locations, and parents will follow typical dismissal procedures.
Again if you would like to join your child on their scheduled party day, you must have the green car dismissal tag and/or driver’s license. I expect that there will be a delay in entering the building as we are being extra diligent in identifying all visitors.
Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation,
Stephanie Walker

Hi, this is Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Wells wanted me to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers while she is away. She is having surgery on Wednesday morning. When she fell, the bones in her wrist broke away from her hand. She is going to have a plate put in to reconnect them. While she is out, Mrs. Trent and I will be working with Mrs. Bamonte and Mrs. Nicodemus to make sure everyone remains on track. If your child would like to make Mrs. Wells a card, Mrs. Trent and I will make sure she gets them. Just send them in, and give to Mrs. Wells’ sub. Thank you.

Mrs. Wells' KinderLION News for the Week of November 5 - 9, 2012
Dear Parents,
Report Cards for 1st Quarter will be coming home today for Group A students, and Friday, for Group B Students. This is a new West Clermont Report Card for Kindergarten. Your child was assessed on Kindergarten Benchmarks set by the State of Ohio. We will be able to answer any questions you have about the new report card at Parent-Teacher Conferences, but until then, this may help.
• “L” = Limited Progress. What does that mean? If your child gets an “L” on their report card, please know they are still making progress to meet that one specific goal, but are in need of extra help, and support by the teacher. They also will require extra help at home so that they can master this skill/goal.
• “M” = Making Progress. What does that mean? Most students will fall in the “m” category. “M” means that your child is making progress to that specific goal independently on their own. Some children who get a “M” may have almost made the goal, but may have missed a couple of the steps, or was not consistent in making that goal. They too can use extra help at home to help them be more consistent so they can make the goal the next quarter.
• “P” = Proficient. What does this mean? “P” means that at this time, your child has made the goal set for 1st quarter. Some goals, (such as letter names, and counting) will increase for 2nd quarter and unless your child meets that goal for 2nd quarter, they may not receive a “P”. For example, let us look at letter naming upper case letters. To receive a “p” for 1st quarter, your child only had to name 13 upper case letters correctly. 2nd quarter, they must name all 26 letters to get a “p”.
This week we are working on the Reading Street, Unit 2, week 3 “Animal Babies in the Grasslands”, We are introducing three new words: “we, my, like”. Please continue to review the sight words, “have”, “is”, ”to”, “a”, “the”, “little”, “I”, and “am”. Please also work with your child on recognizing these words and the letters, sounds of the alphabet.
Go Math!
This week we are finishing up to work on Chapter 3 “Represent, Count, and Write Numbers 6 to 9. Please practice counting by 1’s to 25 with your child and writing numbers 0-10. Thank you!
Reminder that Kindergarten’s conferences will be different this year. We only have 2 days to have our conferences, and we must give all parents a time to meet. SAVE THE DATES!! Thanks to our wonderful PTO, every child in Kindergarten received a FREE t-shirt saying “Class of 2025” at the Kindergarten Registration at the end of last year. Parents of children who did attend filled out their child’s name on a white index card and handed it to the PTO parent to get their shirt. We had lots of children not attend the roundup, so we went through all the cards and found out who in each class had received shirts. If you did not get your free shirt in the Spring of last year, we are sending them home this week. (Group B got theirs on Friday in Mrs. Smith’s room).

Dear Parents,
This week in the Reading Street Reading Program we are on Unit 1, week 3, “Plaidypus Lost”, The 2 new sight words are, “the” and “little”. We are also reviewing the sight words “I” and “Am”. Please work with your child on recognizing these words. We still have many children who only know a couple of letters of the alphabet, and can recognize them, write them, and say their sound. If your child does not know their letters and sounds, please work with them at home on this skill. We will continue to work on them at school, and with us both working on these skills, your child will meet success so much quicker.
Reminder: Go Math! We have started Unit 1 in the Go Math Books. Unit 1 focuses on “Number and Operation”. I sent home your child’s Go Math Book last week. Remember, I only have 1 book per child, so PLEASE do not lose your books. If you lose a book, I will not be able to replace it. The Go Math Homework Book is for you to KEEP at home. You will be assigned pages each week to do at home.
Go Math Homework this week: All three Kindergarten teachers have been working on Unit 1 in the Go Math Books, and informally assessing the students on the skills of numbers 1-5. We have moved quicker than anticipated in our Math workbook in class. We are very happy to report that almost all children have met the “progressing” goal, and we are ready to move to Unit 2, which will look at numbers 1-5 more in depth. Next week we will begin Unit 2. You are welcome to finish pages 5-26 in Unit 1, but please do not feel it is necessary. Next week, we will be sending home the October Homework packet which will assign 2 pages of math in the math workbook each night for homework.
Reminder: Peanut Allergy: ALERT: We have a child with a Peanut allergy. My classroom has to be Peanut and Peanut oil free. For the safety of that child, please do NOT send any item that contains peanuts or peanut oil. Thanks for your help in keeping all students safe.
Folders: Remember to go through the BLUE folders each week, empty, and return to school the NEXT school day.
Also, please empty the backpacks each night. The children are bringing back papers that are already graded and we don’t want them to lose any important papers.

We need you to work with your child on the pages we assign. Please do NOT rip out pages after you complete them, and Please do NOT send the book back to school until we ask for them. Homework: Parents it is vital for your child’s school success that you work with your child at home as much as possible to reinforce what we are doing in school. We are a team, and working together will help your child meet their full potential. We ask that you set up a Homework station at your house. A quiet area that is designated as a “Homework” station that they can sit down daily and work on their school work. This will be a great place to keep your child’s Go Math workbook so it won’t be lost.
Peanut Allergy: ALERT: We have a child with a Peanut allergy. My classroom has to be Peanut and Peanut oil free. For the safety of that child, please do NOT send any item that contains peanuts or peanut oil. Thanks for your help in keeping all students safe.
Folders: Kindergarten is so happy and thankful for the PTO for purchasing the new Wednesday/Thursday Folders. The new blue folders are extra sturdy and will help us communicate. Group A folders will be sent home EVERY Wednesday. Please empty the folder and send back the NEXT school day. Group B folders will be sent home every Thursday. Please empty the folder and send back the NEXT school day. The Blue Take Home Folders will be used the entire school year and will have weekly information that is sent home from the office. Their bags are starting to fill up with all the wonderful papers they do in the classroom. Thank you.

KinderLION News September 10-14
Dear Parents,
This week we started the Reading Street Reading Program. Unit 1, week 1 story is "The Little School Bus" by Carol Roth. I am sending home tonight a Reading Street Packet. The first page of the packet is called the Student Login Letter. It is very important not to lose this letter, because it has your child’s user name and password for the Pearson SuccessNet Reading Street Online Program. Reading Street allows parents to login and use the online resources that go along with the Kindergarten Reading Street Reading Program. You can follow along with each unit, and also read books online at your child’s reading level, and play the interactive games that go along with each unit. First you will go to the website: www.pearsonsuccessnet.com and then enter the username and password I created for your child. Have fun exploring!
Peanut Allergy: ALERT: We have a child with a Peanut allergy. My classroom has to be Peanut and Peanut oil free. For the safety of that child, please do NOT send any item that contains peanuts or peanut oil. Thanks for your help in keeping all students safe.
Folders: I am missing several folders. Papers came back but no folders. If you find them at home, please send them back to school. We will be sending home Wednesday/Thursday folders each week. Wednesday Folders for Group A children (Blue) and Thursday folders for Group B children (Red). It is important to go through and return to school the NEXT school day your child is in school. It is very important you go through the folder each week. There will be lots of papers from the office that you may need to fill out and return. Empty the folder of any paper you do not need to return and keep at home. Send back any papers, lunch money, school fees, etc.. that need to be sent back to school on the NEXT school day. I will keep the folder and send back the next week with new papers for the week. Thank you for your help with folders.
Homework: Homework packets and Math Books will be sent home the first week in October. Today you are receiving the Reading Street login, where I assign books that can be read online. I know some of you do not have access to the Internet, so this is not a mandatory assignment. If you know someone that has the internet and you can log on, or if you visit the public library, this free resource will be very helpful for your child.
School Fees: Thanks to all the parents who have turned in the school fees. If you have not yet paid, please do so as soon as possible. School Fees of $50 need to be turned in as soon as possible. You can make 4 equal payments of $12.50 (1 payment for each quarter) if this helps. Please make sure you put your child's first and last name on the Memo line
of the check.
Lunch and Lunch Money: We eat lunch at 12:30 every day. If you child is going to buy lunch it is easier to send in money in a lump sum. For example, If you send a check of $25 for your child, write their first/last name on the memo line and their account number on the check. The money goes into their lunch account. Each day they buy, your child will go through the lunch line, and will wear the name tag I made them with their ID number. The ladies in the cafe will type in the number and your child's account will be deducted the amount of the purchase. They will use the money until the account is empty. Then you can send in another check. You can send cash too, but please make sure it is in a sealed baggie or envelope with your child's first/last name on it. Any money not used at the end of the year, will roll over in their account for next year.
